Commemorative Pathway and Footpath
COMMEMORATIVE PATHWAY AND FOOTPATH
The "Commemorative Pathway" project in Baromi Park was undertaken by the members of the Society with the assistance of a grant from FRRR in late 2006 with the official opening taking place on 27th October 2007. There were over 200 people attended with many visitors travelling great distances to be part ot this historic event which will leave a lasting legacy set in stone for generations to come.
The pathway includes the names of families who were original pioners of the district, early shop keepers and farmers, as well as organisations and current residents being represented making up generations of families in some cases. Each engraved paver is set into the pathway with morter, some in blocks, between plain pavers as a permanent reminder of the role these people played in the development of Mirboo North and the district.
The ribbon was cut at the official opening by two young fifth generation children of families that have lived in the district since settlement.
Many visitors to the town have visited the pathway project since its establishment with many more in the future to ponder the names it contains.
Since completing the pathway we had numerous requests for further named pavers and the Historical Society with sponsorship from the Mirboo North Lions and Creative Village undertook an extension footpath in 2010 with the official opening in April 2011.
